Those Sounds Teenagers Make

Next time your mother says “How dare you make a glottal stop reduced central unrounded vowel long glottal fricative at me!” you’ll know she saw this video.

James Harbeck says linguistics was invented just so we could make technical names for the annoying sounds teenagers make. I guess when it comes down to it “auggghhhh, uhhhhhhh, yyyyyeh, kkkh, duhhhhh,” and “huuhuuhuuhh” aren’t very precise, but still, he obviously has a bone to pick with his teenage kids. See his May 22nd piece in The Week for more detail on the sounds he says teenage mouths (and attitudes) make, and how eye-rolling adults can interpret them.
