Tomorrow’s Defenders of Liberty

The Victory Corps was an educational program for teenagers that ran from 1942-44, training high schoolers to become “tomorrow’s defenders of liberty.” The program provided extra funding for schools to focus on subjects relevant to the war effort, including science, math and physical fitness. In addition, members of the Victory Corps helped run normal school operations like serving food and cleaning up classrooms when staff was short due to the war. Trainings and classes varied by school, but included navigation, photography, welding, medical treatment, coding for radio and even shooting.
