Raised by Wolves

Jim Goldberg spent six years following homeless teens in Los Angeles and San Francisco. His 1997 book, Raised by Wolves, shows the underbelly of urban adolescence through the eyes of Tweeky Dave, Echo, and a rotating band of runaway junkie teens. The book’s graphic imagery combined with the questions it raises about an older photographer exploiting young addicts and glamorizing homelessness, brought Goldberg notoriety. Combining collage and social documents in an original way, Goldberg provided a new voice for American street life.
